According to reports, the underground high stakes poker ring recently broken up in New York has another victim, Marc Lasry, a billionaire who was expected to be the next U.S. Ambassador to France until the bust occurred. Lasry has not been charged or accused of being part of the gambling ring, but his close ties to one of woman who allegedly ran the New York arm of the illegal gambling operation was enough to lose him the possible job as ambassador.

Lasry turned down the post after the FBI was tasked with looking into his connection with the woman, Illya Trincher. According to undisclosed sources, Lasry was a gambling aficionado who enjoyed the high stakes private poker sessions. His name was allegedly mentioned on surveillance tapes made during the investigation of the gambling ring. Lasry has previously made his love for poker public. On Bloomberg TV last year, he was quoted as saying, “Poker is math, so I enjoy playing it because I think there’s a lot of math involved. And it’s fun. It’s fun to play with others.”
